Build Your Own Guitar Pedal Workshop Part 1: Design and decorate

This will be the first in what will be an endless series of workshops related to the musical side of creativity. As an artist of many mediums, sometimes I’m compelled to navigate toward a different side of creativity to avoid burnout. Years ago, I couldn’t help but gravitate towards music when reaching blocks in my art journey. I picked up some instruments, delved deep into the wild world of effects pedals, and eventually learned how to fix or manipulate them with a soldering iron and schematics.

Are you a musician? (Totally cool, if not)

Have you ever wondered about the inner workings of the guitar effects pedals you shred through?

This two part pedal workshop will be lead by Tony, one of the rad guitarists of the incredible surf band, The Perks. He will be heading up the technical part of the class. (Day 2/ April 19)

Angelica, owner of Waywards Art Haus, and lead guitarist/ lead vocalist for local girl band, Sleuth, will be leading the artistic part of this workshop. (Day 1/ April 17)

Day 1 of the workshop, April 17. 5-9pm (really just working at our leisure and you can leave whenever you’re done)

You will be provided with the space and any medium available to paint, draw on, and design the enclosure to your pedal. You’re welcome to bring any supplies or mediums you prefer but we have a wide array choices for just about any application.

Day 2 of the workshop, April 19. (12pm-5pm. It can end sooner as long as the class is on time)

Tony will guide us through a discussion on the schematics and inner workings of the Electra Distortion then walk us through how to wire and assemble it.

$100 covers ALL paint/ design supplies and materials, enclosure, circuit board and components, along with all tools and materials for the wiring process.

sue regis is NOT a photographer.

29 years ago, sue regis began building an empire around her craft of flame working and glass blowing. An empire that would bring joy and meaning to the Joliet community and beyond. 3 years ago, this glorious glass empire was shattered due to a cacophony of health problems, removing her from reality as she knew it.

while navigating this new dream-state of reality, unable to channel her wild artistic energy into glass blowing, sue regis found a spark while capturing her life and experience through the lens of a polaroid camera.

now, sue regis is NOT a photographer, but she’s been taking photos anyway, and her journey through these Polaroids is something to be shared. so, we proudly invite you to step into the safe haven that is waywards art haus, the space where sue regis’s torch last burned, to witness her re-emergence into the creative realm.

———-

free event, donations are welcome.

friday april 25th 5pm-9pm

saturday april 26th 12pm-6pm

original polaroids taken by sue regis will be displayed and for sale for these two dates ONLY.

Slightly Askew

Delve into the ever changing world of Tresa Walker, who—while battling seizures, medications, surgeries, and strokes—taught herself to paint with her non dominant hand, offering a raw, visceral depiction of her perseverance through years of medical trauma. “Slightly Askew!” connects the links between the traumatic brain and an artist’s rebirth.

Join us on this page of Tresa’s journey of creative revival. Slightly Askew will have its opening reception on October 1st 7:30-11pm and it’s closing reception October 15th 7:30-11pm. All other viewings by appointment only.

ARTIST STATEMENT

“Hello everyone! I am excited to announce my upcoming art show "Slightly Askew!" This event is dear to my heart as it celebrates post-traumatic growth (PTG) and aims to shed light on arteriovenous vascular malformations (AVMs).

In the year 2000, at the age of 23, I discovered I had an AVM in my brain's right frontal lobe. What followed were years of battling through seizures, medications, surgeries, and strokes. Despite the challenges, I persevered and channeled my experiences into my art and career. Through my paintings, I tell the story of my journey, showcasing the resilience and transformation I've undergone.

One of the unique aspects of my art process is that I taught myself to paint using my non-dominant hand, resulting in pieces that are raw and unrefined. Your presence at the show would mean the world to me as we come together to raise awareness for AVMs, especially during AVM Awareness Month in October.

A few terms I’ve had to learn over the years, please familiarize yourself with the definition of terms for your awareness:

Brain arteriovenous malformation (AVM), Embolism, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD), Post Traumatic Growth (PTG)

-Tresa Walker”
